From the
family raffle
Summer 5786

It would be fitting for the winner to act as the representative of all the participants – for a person’s agent is like the person himself, and thus, in the winner’s journey, each and every one of them is, in a sense, traveling too.

From a letter by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Volume 10, p. 264.

A little
about the raffle

The initiative regarding the trip to the Rebbe began during the early years of his leadership; the idea was to hold a raffle in which every Hasid would contribute a small sum, and a single winner would serve as the emissary for all the participants.

The Rebbe accorded special attention to the raffle winner—not merely as an individual, but as the representative of hundreds and thousands of fellow Hasidim in the Holy Land. The Rebbe viewed the emissary’s journey as the spiritual journey of all the thousands of participants: “…Although only one person wins the trip, all participants must make the appropriate preparations, just as if they were the ones traveling…”

In some years, he even noted down the names of the lottery winners.

After all, every participant in the raffle is considered as if they were personally joining the trip to the Rebbe.

Over the course of the last 12 raffles, hundreds of participants have taken part and gained representation before the Rebbe. Participation is open to everyone, and ticket prices are kept especially affordable to ensure that anyone can join in.
